New work for the Miami Show. 31x25 Mixed Media on wood.

Multiversal is the brainchild of graphic artist and Wizard Sleeve Toys founder, Mike Franco and rising star Cassie “Kazilla” Williams. Multiversal will occupy several rooms including a South Florida local artist room, an Art Institute student exhibition, the second Feminality art show (www.FeminalityArtShow.com), a custom toy show and several exhibitions and installations. Full details and itinerary to follow.  For the launch of Multiversal, Franco was determined to have Tara McPherson and Buff Monster collaborate on a huge painting. “Once I had Tara on board, I contacted Buff Monster and he was honored to be a part of the show.”  A true mix of art on a variety of platforms, Multiversal will feature more than 20 top artists from the likes of Buff Monster, Sket-One, Mear One, Kano, Georgette Pressler (body art), Tara Hauck (fine art photography), as well as Aunia Kahn, Tofusquirrel and Jessica Sardas amongst others. We will be teaming up with 3 other reputable galleries; The Hive Gallery from LA, The Steve Brown Gallery from Cleveland and the D.E.A.D. Gallery from Belgium.  The Multiversal group show begins on Thursday, December 3rd and runs until Sunday, December 6th. It will take place at The American Legion building, 6445 NE 7th Ave in the Miami Modern District. Admission is FREE. McPherson and several other artists will be on-hand for the event.

Record Club

Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. As you will hear, some of the songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens. And those who aren't familiar with the albums in question will hopefully look for the songs in their definitive versions.

Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF)-panels

Pretty interesting panels off a LDEF. Gives me a bunch of ideas. What do you know science is good for something.

From the nonist: Deployed into space in 1984, it orbited the Earth for five and a half years with nothing expected of it other than to float there, getting battered about by whatever the great black yonder saw fit to throw at it. You see, every inch of its outside surface was covered with Science. 57 separate experiments, mounted in 86 trays, involving the participation of “more than 200 principal investigators from 33 private companies, 21 universities, seven NASA centers, nine Department of Defense laboratories and eight foreign countries.” Its purpose was to study the effects of space on a multitude of materials. Its name is the Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF) and I am deeply in love with it.

National Geographic Animal Mummies

Found Photo Friday-Daguerreotypes.

Daguerreotypes.

A daguerreotype (original French: daguerréotype) is an early type of photograph, developed by Louis Daguerre, in which the image is exposed directly onto a mirror-polished surface of silver bearing a coating of silver halide particles deposited by iodine vapor. In later developments bromine and chlorine vapors were also used, resulting in shorter exposure times. The daguerreotype is a negative image, but the mirrored surface of the metal plate reflects the image and makes it appear positive when the silvered surface has a dark ground reflected into it. Thus, daguerreotype is a direct photographic process without the capacity for duplication.

Where the Wild Things Art-Show

About The Show

Illiterate's debut exhibit, Where The Wild Things Art, is a themed show originally proposed to Illiterate by artist, Max Kauffman. The theme resonates as both playfully simple and open to subtle complexities, much like Illiterate.

Max, whose name happens to coincide with the protagonist in Maurice Sendak's book Where The Wild Things Are, worked in conjunction with the Illiterate staff to corral 30 ferociously talented artists from throughout Colorado and beyond to participate in this group exploration. With a title as their sole conceptual limitation, the artists were free to explore their own paths towards interpreting this challenge. A number of artists drew inspiration directly from Sendak's book and film, pushing and playing with its underlying dark moral tones and psychological angst.  Other artists traveled well beyond the familiar imagery to create landscapes inhabited by more personal fantasies and creatures from within their own rampant imaginations. Still, some artists completely forwent this particular narrative approach, evaluating the meaning of the words themselves within the title to inform their work.
